Tribute to Prof. Jean Herskovits 1935- 2019

Prof. Jean Herskovits (1935-2019), witty American historian, Africanist and “a well-disguised Nigerian.” She knew Nigeria’s history better than most Nigerians, and was well versed in her political trajectory. She mingled effortlessly, with many Nigerian leaders, civilian and military alike. She often upbraided U.S. policymakers for not paying keen attention to Nigeria. Her legacy will include insightful briefs on Nigeria. I had the privilege of calling her a friend. May she find rest. ~ Oseloka H. Obaze
